In rectangular or a square  arrangement when the persons are facing towards centre  Right means Anti - clockwise Direction and Left means Clockwise Direction and In rectangular or a square  arrangement when the persons are facing outside the centre  Right means Clockwise Direction and Left means Anti-Clockwise Direction In these type of question some persons are facing towards centre and some are facing outside the centre, so both the rules are applied in the same question.

Illustration: - Read the following information carefully and answer the question given below -

A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H are sitting around a square table in such a way that four of them sit at corners of the square while four sit in the middle of each of the sides. Those who sit at the four corners facing outside while those who sit in the middle of the sides face the centre of the table.

D sits third to the right of G. G faces the centre. E sits third to the left of C. C does not sit in the middle of the sides. Only one person sit between E and F. F is not immediate neighbour of C. H faces the centre. A is not an immediate neighbour of F.

Question: - What is the position of C with respect to B ?

A. Third to the right                         B. C & B sit diagonally opposite              C. Second to right.                 D. Second to the left.

Answer. D Second to the left

Solution: According to the first statement it is given that D sits third to the right of G. G faces the centre, They are shown in the figure I

Figure I

In the next statement it is given that C does not sit in the middle of the sides. There are three possibilities which are shown the figure II, III  and IV

Figure II

Figure III

Figure IV

In the next statement it is given E sits third to the left of C. We see that The position where E is to be placed is not vacant so Figure II is eliminated. Now according to the figure III the possibility is shown in Figure V and according to Figure IV the possibility is shown in Figure VI

Figure V

Figure VI

In the next statement it is given Only one person sit between E and F. F is not immediate neighbour of C.  according to the figure V the possibility is shown in Figure VII and according to Figure VI the possibility is shown in Figure VIII

Figure VII

Figure VIII

In the next statement it is given H faces the centre.  According to the figure VII the possibility is shown in Figure IX and according to Figure VIII the possibility is shown in Figure X

Figure IX

Figure X

In the next statement it is given A is not an immediate neighbour of F.  According to the figure IX the possibility is shown in Figure XI and according to Figure X the possibility is shown in Figure XII

Figure XI

Figure XII

In Figure XII we see that A is an immediate neighbour of F so it is eliminated and Hence on placing B in figure XI we get

So, according to the figure we see that the position of  C with respect to B is second left  . Hence the correct option is D.
